ABOUT REMAPPING

Understand remapping before you decide

Two minutes before you fill in the form: what a remap actually does, and what separates Stage 1, 2 and 3. You will know exactly what you are asking for. We do all three stages and can assess any make.

What is remapping, and why is there power left in a standard car?
The ECU is the engine's brain: it controls fuelling, ignition and boost. The factory map has to work everywhere the car is sold, so it is written around patchy fuel quality, extreme climates and emissions rules, with a big safety margin left in. A remap is not magic. It takes the potential the factory held back for a global market and gives it back to you, set up for your car and the fuel you actually run.
What is the difference between Stage 1, 2 and 3?
Stage is not an industry standard. It is a ladder of how far the build goes: how much hardware is fitted and how deep the map goes.
Stage 1Software only (a remap), no hardware changes. Roughly +15 to 25% power on a turbo car, daily-driveable, servicing as standard. The easiest way in.
Stage 2Remap plus bolt-on hardware (downpipe, induction kit, intercooler). Clears the exhaust, intake and cooling bottlenecks for +20 to 40%. Hardware and map have to match.
Stage 3Bigger turbo plus fuelling, drivetrain and cooling upgrades: +40 to 60% and beyond. Performance first, not really for a pure daily.
Which stage should I start at?
Nine out of ten people feel a real difference at Stage 1, and it is painless and fully reversible. Do Stage 1 properly, live with it, then decide whether to go further. That is the practical route. If you already know you want more, Stage 2 or 3 is the next step.
Will a remap damage the engine? Is it safe?
A well-written map keeps temperatures and pressures inside the factory safety margins, so the car stays daily-driveable. The key is that it is written for your car, not pulled from a generic template. Our rule: we health-check the car before we map it (compression, fuelling, turbo, sensors). We will not map a car that is not healthy, because a map only magnifies what is already wrong.
What fuel do I need?
Higher octane resists knock better. A higher-stage map is usually written for 98 RON. Run 95 on a map written for 98 and it will knock under load and damage the engine. We will go through the right fuel for your map when we set it up.

Brand, model and when it was fitted all help. The more detail, the better the assessment.
