ABOUT ECU TUNING

Understand tuning before you decide

Two minutes before you fill out the form: what a tune actually does, and what separates Stage 1, 2 and 3. You will know exactly what you are asking for. We do all three stages and can assess any make.

What is ECU tuning, and why is there power left in a stock car?
The ECU is the engine's brain: it controls fueling, ignition and boost. The factory calibration has to work everywhere the car is sold, so it is written around patchy fuel quality, extreme climates and emissions rules, with a big safety margin left in. A tune is not magic. It takes the potential the factory held back for a global market and gives it back to you, set up for your car and the fuel you actually run.
What is the difference between Stage 1, 2 and 3?
Stage is not an industry standard. It is a ladder of how far the build goes: how much hardware is installed and how deep the tune goes.
Stage 1Software only (an ECU tune), no hardware changes. Roughly +15 to 25% power on a turbo car, daily-driveable, maintenance as stock. The easiest way in.
Stage 2Tune plus bolt-on hardware (downpipe, intake, intercooler). Clears the exhaust, intake and cooling bottlenecks for +20 to 40%. Hardware and tune have to match.
Stage 3Bigger turbo plus fueling, driveline and cooling upgrades: +40 to 60% and beyond. Performance first, not really for a pure daily.
Which stage should I start at?
Nine out of ten people feel a real difference at Stage 1, and it is painless and fully reversible. Do Stage 1 properly, live with it, then decide whether to go further. That is the practical route. If you already know you want more, Stage 2 or 3 is the next step.
Will a tune damage the engine? Is it safe?
A well-written tune keeps temperatures and pressures inside the factory safety margins, so the car stays daily-driveable. The key is that it is written for your car, not pulled from a generic template. Our rule: we health-check the car before we tune it (compression, fueling, turbo, sensors). We will not tune a car that is not healthy, because a tune only magnifies what is already wrong.
What fuel do I need?
Higher octane resists knock better. A higher-stage tune is usually written for 98 RON, the premium grade at Taiwanese pumps. Run 95 on a tune written for 98 and it will knock under load and damage the engine. We will go through the right fuel for your tune when we set it up.
